Progress
Just keep to it today
One day at a time
Diets are boring. Stay bored for 8 weeks!
Every day re-commit
You will change your life around
You will reverse your diabetes
You will win
Keep filling in your diary log
Some days no change in weight.
Some days weight goes up! How did that happen? (Hydration levels)(Uneven floor)
Some days blood sugar level down.
Some days blood sugar level up!
But the trend for both is downwards!
Week 5 my weight loss slowed considerably. With a lot of weight to lose, in week 6 I thinned by soup with 50% boiling water, used a smaller salad bowl and I reduced my shakes from three to two a day. Positive steady weight loss returned.
Mark major events
I add a big smiley face when result makes me happy.
Blood sugars fell below double figures
Every half stone lost
When my blood sugars fell into the normal non dietetic range. It was 30th September 2015. From 16.6 (at 18 stone) down to 5.6, (still 16 and half stone) in 4 weeks, one day. 3 weeks 6 days to go!
Vary the diet if you like
I varied the soups I made but always had the same soup over 4 days.
The salad was normally the same but I love grated carrot.
In week 5 my weight loss had reduced to just a couple of lb's. I had lost just under 2 stone. In week 6 I decided to thin the soup, reduced the size of the salad and went from three milk shakes to two. The weight loss returned and I still felt ok!
I still go out
My wife decided I was surplus to her requirements a couple of years ago so dinner parties are not an issue right now but the diet hasn't stopped me going out.
In the day I drink black coffee, it feels most continental. Most of our pubs now do great coffee. I have even taken to these chain coffee shops.(I know, late to party on this)
In the evening I drink pints of iced fizzy water. (Drinking chilled water burns more calories)
Weeks 4 to 6 it's all down hill, easy peasy
It gets easier. You have already done the worst.
You are probably thinking about hoping to drop that other stone or two before you finish.
I checked out what my weight range should be. I am nowhere near. I have much more to do after. Check you weight range here
I plan to keep weight reduction up. I will probably follow the 5:2 diet.
Week 7 is really hard
I have now had my fasting/morning sugar readings in the non-diabetic range for 7 days in succession. (Low 5's and in the last few days mid 4's) Now I have to keep my resolve to finish the 8 weeks.
I know that I need to pull away down from my "diabetes will return weight" of approximately 16.5 stone. I am sure that diabetes can return for many other different reasons rather just one weight point but I like to keep things simple. I can't even be sure it has reversed fully as yet. It will take months of proving along with a few blood tests.
So I have to keep going, and I will but it is harder.
My new target
Ok I have two targets actually.
Target one is to be "just" over-weight as opposed to obese. For me this is just under 15 stone so 14.5 stone. What will this be for you?
Target two is to be a healthy-weight as opposed to being over-weight. For me this is 12 stone. What is yours? This should be your ultimate target.
12 Stone for me is what I refer to as your "happy-life weight" being 3/4 of my "get diabetes again" weight.
So one target was right, get to my "happy-life weight". The time scale is 12 months from the end of this diet. For me this is 26/10/2016.
New cloths @ happy-life weight
